Gully Boy: Apna Time Aayega
Watched Gully Boy, Only one word - OUTSTANDING and MESMERIZING.
Firstly the direction of Zoya Akthar was awesome, she has brought a freshness to the movie, screenplay was tight, all the characters had an equal opportunities. The Bombay we see in this movie is not the stereotypical Bombay, it is different which brings freshness and new perspective to the movie.
Ranveer Singh as Gully Boy- Loved his performance, we have seen him hyper energetic in his previous movies. His introduction was simple. In this movie he is much grounded, you can see his anger(on his circumstances), passion(for Music and RAP) through his eyes, I guess this is his best performance till date. The first scene between him and Safeena is best, no words but full of emotion There are certain scenes with such nuances like the scene where he goes to Sky’s bathroom and folds the napkin and keeps it back carefully and measuring the bathroom in an awe, which is more spacious than his whole house. These nuances make the movie standout from rest.
Siddhant Chaturvedi as MC Sher- This guy was another performance I was surprised to see and which was strong but subtle, every word he utters was so convincing and acting chops were off the charts, I hope we see him more.
Alia Bhatt as Safeena- She was “Pataka” full of life, she played her role so amazing that you even cheer for her when she assaults one of Murad’s admirers or trashes someone with a bottle. She is keeps pushing Murad towards his dreams, which was amazing No more Nonsense.
Rest of the cast- Vijay raaz (His dad), Vijay Varma (Friend) every single character helps Murad become Gully Boy intentionally or unintentionally.
Length of the movie was not a problem to me when you are dealing with this kind of subject and giving an arc to all the characters can be long, but I don’t think people coming out after watching will complain about length but will be happy and accomplished.
